State of the Blog Address

I am so overwhelmed with gratitude and support from you when I shared my word of the year. It seems like many of you have similar goals and aspirations like I do. I’m telling you, even though we are far apart, this little blogging community is so rich with love and support! It makes my heart full.

This year with my blog I’m going to be also making some big changes. As we come up on my 2nd anniversary of the blog, I’m going to be making the big leap to Word Press. I’m working on the migration plan and mini re-design now, so stay tuned for that.  Another thing you won’t be seeing this year is a lot of sponsored posts that aren’t truly what I’m passionate about.

This past year I was fortunate enough to have a great wave of success with sponsored posts. While that is wonderful, sometimes I struggled writing the content because it wasn’t where my heart was. So this year, I’m really focusing on aligning with the right companies and brands that fit our brand going forward. If I wouldn’t buy it, I’m not going to pitch it to you.  

I have to remember the reason I started blogging. 

I started blogging 2 years ago for 1 reason – to document my life with Hattie. People seemed to like that we went places and what we wore and things we loved, so I started to just share our story. People started following. People looked for what I had to say or even ask for suggestions on birthday gifts or the right kind of shoes for narrow feet for babies. I loved being that helpful mom resource with a relate-able feel. Heck, you’ll see me in my bathrobe and towel on my head on snap chat. I’m not glamorous. I certainly don’t have a filter either.

I’m not a fashion blogger, but I understand how to dress a plus size body. I love pattern mixing and of course dressing Miss H. She pretty much has the most epic closet ever and I love sharing the quirkiness of her style. So people seem to like what we share. 

So this year, I’ll continue to share our story of where we go, what we do and things we love, but with less pitching. I think we can all appreciate that, right? If there is a brand I truly love, I’ll share them with you, but because I love them, not because of money. 

This is apart of my minimizing plan. It’s a drastic change, but for me, it’s good. I’m going to continue to work on growing my blog, telling our story, hopefully get better with my photography and have fun.  If I miss a Friday Five – it’s not the end of the world. If I want to take a break for a week or so, I’ll do it. 

But above all, thank you for joining us. We get often get to do some amazing things because of this blog and without the partnership and following of you, well none of this would be possible. We’ve finally passed the point of just my mom and grandma reading the blog. 

So that’s my state of the blog address.

  1. My blog is getting a bit of a makeover content wise this year. I no longer want to focus on sponsorship as much as I did in previous years. One thing I want to do is only blog what I love so that may mean saying no to certain opportunities. I'm also going to be blogging 4 days a week instead of 5. That free day is something I am looking forward to!

    Good luck with your move to WP. I hope to one day make the same change!

    Oh I'm with you! While I didn't too a crazy amount of sponsored posts, I definitely want to be pickier this year, and not caught up with just taking posts to take posts.
