There is that 2-3 week sweet spot when summer hours are still in effect until labor day and and schools are in session. It’s my favorite time because our favorite places are not as busy as they usually are and we get to spend extra time there because there are no crowds. That also 3 generations get to go apple picking once again at Eckert’s Farm!
This past weekend was the official open for pick your own Honeycrisp Apples at Eckert’s and having never picked that particular variety of apple before, we knew we needed to make a fun morning of it. We invited Grammy to go with us because she always loves extra Hattie time. Sometimes I get a little jealous of the relationship that Hattie and my mom have. I never had that with my grandparents and I think it’s so special. I love that we all get to make memories together that will last a lifetime.
Once we arrived we waited in line for the tractor. That day we had the option to pick Gala or Honeycrisp, but we knew we were on a mission. Honeycrisp are Jeff’s favorite apples.
After a short ride to the fields, we were off on our quest to find the perfect apples. The trees were super tall, so we hoisted Hattie up high to find the perfect ones. Of course, she thought that was fun and bonus, we got an arm workout!
Of course, you can’t go to an apple orchard without sampling what you’re bringing home, right? I’m pretty sure this little lady ate a couple of apples while were were picking. There is nothing better than apple fresh from the tree.
Be sure to add apple picking to your early fall calendar. We go every year and sometimes even twice! We love adding traditions to our annual schedule, and this is one of them. There is nothing more enjoyable than spending time with your little family doing back to basics fun.
Be sure to check the Crop Update before heading to the farm. Honeycrisps will be available through this weekend. Pick-Your-Own are $2.99 a lb or you can pick some up in the country store. They will have additional varieties coming available during season. Pick Your Own Veggies is also open and you can pick Zinnia’s and Sunflower. Don’t forget to make a reservation for lunch too!
Thanks for another fun filled day, Eckerts!

This gives me hope bc last year their crop wasn’t pleasant and we didn’t get any on our trip out there.

Gosh, I miss apple picking! We used to live in NY where apple orchards were a dime a dozen and now I’ve gotta go look up where I could find one in a 50 mile radius. If I head your way I’ll be sure to check Eckert’s for those Honey Crisps! Those are my fave.
