I am so excited to share with you today the before and after of our dining room. As a refresher, we’ve been partnering with Boardwalk Hardwood Floors with a full DIY Installation of flooring in our home over the summer. As you can imagine, the process dramatically changed the look of our home for the better. Today I wanted to share before and after photos of our dining room and some of the updates we recently did to give it a fun update.
Antique Furniture
14 years ago, we bought my Dad’s house before he packed up and moved permanently to Florida for warmer weather. He left a lot of stuff. Okay, a TON of stuff. One of the things he left us was our formal dining room set. If I recall correctly, this set was a gift from when his parents got married. My dad was born in the late ’50s so this set is near 70 years old. While we don’t actually use it for dining, it’s more of a stuff collector, I do keep all of my great grandmother’s formal china stored there for safekeeping. I wanted to keep the dining room still a formal space even though current trends are doing away with dining rooms.
Boardwalk Hardwood Floors
With the help from our Friends at Boardwalk Hardwood Floor and Vintage Flooring, we were able to select the right hardwood flooring for our home as well as offer DIY Tips and tricks for installation. With our DIY project, we spent about 10 days working on the project and are thrilled with the results.
Everyone in our family got in on the action. Teamwork makes dreams work!
The Final Results
I just love how everything turned out. The two biggest changes were the addition of a rug which I felt brought warmth to the space. Having a different color wood floor over the wood furniture needed a break and I love the cream color and how it accented the walls. We also replaced the heavy silk curtains with a more sheer panel to brighten up the space. With the darker floors, we needed some light colors to lighten everything up.
During this time, we took the opportunity to clear out some of the storage we had saved for leftover dishes and drinkware that we knew we would likely never use. Eliminating a lot of the clutter in the space really made the space come alive.
Up next – the Kitchen – stay tuned!
