I have been dying for a front door makeover for a while and I finally convinced hubs to do it! I really had 2 concerns:
1) the door knob is tarnished and needs to be replaced.
2) the glass windows are dirty and have a weird goo on them.
So to solve our issues, we actually had to get a brand new door. The builder in our subdivision had a special door knob put on all the houses and it is not a standard lock as his “signature design”. We ended up having an extra door in our basement and we were able to swap out the doors and get a new handle all together!
We had a difference of opinions on door knobs and we finally agreed on this one. Hubs wanted a digital door knob. Um, no.
Once we resolved the door it was onto the goo. A power washer, bleach solution and scrubbing didn’t take it off. Then when Jeff was at Sherwin Williams, the guy recommended Goo Be Gone! All done!
We decided to paint the insets black to give if a new look.
From a distance, it makes the glass look like 1 big pane. Fun new look. The part of the deal was that I am not allowed to have hanging wreath hangers anymore as they weigh down the door. I was able to find heavy duty magnet hangers and they seem to be working great. We tested them out on the old door to make sure they would stay.
Hubs installed the door last night and I love it! I ordered numbers on Etsy as I wanted a new look. We’ll be taking the numbers down off the garage. Overall, I think adds real charm to the house and curb appeal.
Another successful house project complete!
