Who doesn’t love donuts? On the weekends, I love to wake up and make homemade donuts. When we don’t have anything on the schedule, I let everyone sleep and I get to work making these sweet treats. Now, if you ask me what kind of donuts I prefer, I’ll always say I’m more of a old fashioned/cake style donuts kinda gal. Always have, always will. I love that this recipe has that spin with just a hint of lemon. These easy baked lemon cake donuts are perfect for your next weekend at home.
Who knew you could use cake mix to make donuts? I like to keep cake mixes on hand for all kinds of recipes and fun desserts. What makes this even easier is that you bake these donuts instead of frying. I won’t say they are much healthier because this is a pound cake mix. All you’ll need is a donut pan which is easy to find, butter and eggs and you are ready to go. I always have these ingredients on hand, so I’m ready for donuts in an instant!
If you wanted to get a little crazy, add the mix to a zip top bag for a more even fill in your donut pan. Totally optional, either way they will come out looking delicious. Just top with a glaze how ever you’d prefer. I’ve even dunked them in the glaze for more frosting flavor. If you’re into sprinkles ( you know we are! ) then add your favorite for a fun decoration and serve.
You could easily make these with any of your favorite pound cake mixes. This would be delicious with a classic pound cake mix and then a strawberry glaze or chocolate ganache. Really the sky is the limit! Try these donuts next time you’re looking to lemons into lemon donuts!
What is your favorite kind of donut?
