It has been quite a while since I’ve gone car seat shopping. Well, 5 years to be exact. With a soon to be kindergartner who is insanely independent, we needed a new option that would ultimately be our last car seat. We were looking for something that still offered the 5 point harness now, but also converted to a booster option as we enter elementary school. Since H is so independent and she was struggling with buckling herself, we thought it was time for an upgrade with a little help from Diono.
If you are a parent who utilizes car line, well then you know my struggles. We arrive about 5-10 minutes before school to car line, I do my Houdini hands to reach behind to unbuckle the 5 point harness and wait. Then in the afternoon, I have to make sure everything is ready so when H jumps in the car she can buckle everything on her own. With the Diono radian® rXT , she can do it all on her own. Now she hops in and there is not dramatic scene to get a seat belt on. Praise be!
Safety Features
There are a lot of features about the Diono radian® rXT. I like Diono are focused on safety and based in Seattle. So much so that the instructions are attached to the back of the car seat. Jeff installed it on his own, and said the direction were easy to follow, and watched the installation videos for a clarifying question. It offers longevity for your child with rear facing up to 45 lbs. Hattie isn’t even 45 pounds yet, so we still have the option if wanted to! I also love that this car seat goes up to 120 lbs, so really this will be the last car seat we ever need.
I like that the seat is constructed with aluminum reinforced sides with energy EPS foam for additional side impact protection. And my engineer husband appreciates the full steel frame for the highest levels of safety around.
Things we love about the Diono radian® rXT
- Ability to use the booster up to 120 lbs.
- Machine washable cover – this is huge for all the messes!
- Allows forward-facing children from 20-65 pounds in a 5 point harness – it also fits 3 car seats across. You don’t see that every day!
- Reinforced Aluminum sides walls for additional side impact protection
- Full Steel Frame
- Extended Rear-Facing – I wish we had known about this because I love the idea of keeping your baby rear facing as long as you can!
- Unique SuperLATCH™ – makes installation a breeze!
Overall, we are really happy with the Diono radian® rXT. Easy to clean. Easy to board and overall makes our getting in and out of the car so less stressful. Thank you to Diono for helping us making our trips a little bit smoother. What do you look for in a car seat?
