Well, the time has come – the Boardwalk Hardwood Floors Reveal featuring Vintage Flooring. It’s amazing how so much your home can change in just a year! I’ll share more detailed blog posts of each of these rooms as well, so be sure to stay tuned so I can share all the details that make each space in our home special.
Well, let’s take it back to last year to where this whole exciting project began. We had recently partnered with Behr for a fun entryway remodel. We loved the paint color we chose but knew that the time had come to talk about floors. Between the dated style and the very old carpet, it was time for a change. We were so excited to talk more with Boardwalk Hardwood Floors and partner to truly transform our home.
How to Select the Right Flooring
Our process began with How to Select the Right Flooring for your home. Believe me, it’s a process, but a very important one. We learned so much about texture, styles, and what would truly be the best for your home. Ultimately, we went with Vintage Flooring Vintage Red Oak Harbor in 4 1/4 plank from the Sculpted Collection. It’s just magical. I wake up every morning still in love with these floors.
DIY Flooring Installation
After we decided on floors, it was on to the DIY project. Yes, we did this entire project ourselves! Now, I will say that my husband is very handy and so is my Father-in-Law, and we had lots of friends stop in to help us along the way. It’s definitely doable and Boardwalk offers a class to help you map out your plan. Learn more with our 5 Tips for a DIY Flooring Installation. I’d also say be prepared for the unexpected! We ended up having to replace the subfloor, but we’re glad we were able to get it taken care of, but certainly threw our plan off by a few days. In addition to the floors, we updated our baseboards for a taller style which really brought out the character of the floors.
Hardwood Floor Maintenance
Once you have these gorgeous floors installed, maintenance is key. I learned so much about warranties and flooring. There are some big no-no products that can completely void your warranty, so you’ll want to pay attention to those. Also, steam mops are not your friend with these gorgeous floors. Why ruin all that beautiful hard work? You’ll also want to pay close attention to humidity levels in your home because you will definitely notice it with your floors.
The Big Reveal
Okay, the moment you have been waiting for – the final reveal of the spaces! Now Jeff gets annoyed that I added rugs to his gorgeous floors, but I think based on the size of our spaces you need a pop of color to bring the spaces together.
Office Space
This has to be my favorite space that had a makeover this year. I’ll share more on the built-in desks that Jeff built in another blog but, but I love how the white makes the dark walls pop and the floor shine. All the pops of color just enhance the grain of the floor.
Dining Room
Our dining room got minor updates including the removal of some furniture, a new rug, and curtains. This paint color is still one of my favorite colors and we painted right when we moved in. The addition of the taller baseboard really makes the floors pop in this space too. This dining set was my Dad’s parents’ wedding gift and now it sits pretty in our home.
Do you see those beautiful floor vents? They just seamlessly blend into the space. Still, one of my favorite parts of the project.
Living Room
The introduction of hardwood to this space really makes the room feel so much bigger. We only added a rug to this space with hopes of changing some of the tables in the future. All that beautiful natural light just kisses the floors. So pretty.
Kitchen
And finally, the heart of our home. We changed nothing in this space except for tidying it up from the before photo. It’s crazy how well the table color blends with the floors and that was not planned. I’m thrilled with how everything came together in this space. This space is just such a great neutral that gives me the opportunity to play with color when I’m ready to try something new. For now, I love that pop of red and it just looks so pretty.
Laundry Room
And finally the laundry room. We did a fun refresh of this space a few years ago and it was just a great blank canvas. Adding the fresh floors and putting clothes away really is a great way to walk in from the garage.
And there you have it our entire refreshed space with our friends from Boardwalk Hardwood Floors and Vintage Flooring. I’m so thrilled with the final results. If you’re in the St. Louis area, I’d highly recommend checking the team out. I worked with Justin at the St. Peters location and he was so knowledgeable and answered every question we had. Thank you again to Boardwalk and Vintage Flooring for making our house revitalized again!
