We’re days away of spring, and I am so ready. The grass is starting to turn green, flowers are starting to pop up. I am ready! One of our favorite things to do in the spring is get outside and have a picnic. It’s easy, affordable, and best of all it’s perfect for small bites. I learned a long time ago if you wanted to have a stress free activity when food is involved, you have to follow the 3 step approach:
- Buy Store Bought
- Assemble Store Bought Items
- Keep Clean Up Minimal
Easy enough. I love a good charcuterie board, but a little difficult sitting on the ground. With the help of Kaukauna® Cheese Spread, it makes my entertaining style a breeze. I learned a long time ago that there is no point stressing yourself out when entertaining, and that goes for the coziest of picnics too. I’ve always followed the motto of assemble 2 items, and buy the rest. Easy enough. This picnic was no different.
For my my first picnic of this year, I decided to take a little help from the store and pick up Kaukauna® Cheese Spread Cups in Sharp Cheddar and make portable and delicious Cheddar Pretzel Bites. These are perfect to pack in a picnic basket, too! To prepare, just crush 2 cups of your favorite pretzel, scoop a tablespoon of Kaukauna® Cheese Spread and roll into a ball in your hands and coat in the pretzel pieces. I also love doing this with other varieties like Port Wine as well. Your guests will think you spent so much time on this picnic, and we’re talking minutes! The hostess with the mostess for sure.
For my other items in the basket, I used store bought hard boiled eggs and made my own quick deviled egg. Whoever said let’s hard boil and peel an egg and sell it was genius because I had perfect eggs in minutes. I also stopped off at the deli and picked up a half pound of my favorite dry aged salami. Pro Tip – always check the deli selection for cured meats, it’s usually less expensive and less packaging to throw away! You also need a little fresh and sweet and strawberries are coming into season. Always a favorite in our home.
Other ideas could be dried fruits, nuts, chocolate. I try to stick to 4-5 items, because we’re having a picnic, not a buffet dinner.
As for paper products, plan for individual settings. I always keep a small stack of napkins, plates, straws and individual beverages like waters or tea. I also picked up a tablecloth that is waterproof on the bottom and use it to sit on the ground. Just use a damp cloth to clean off and it’s perfect for every picnic. Pack everything in air tight containers and make sure they can stack for fear of too much wiggling in your picnic basket. It’s also easy to serve in. Pulling double duty!
I find my Kaukauna® Cheese Spread near the Cream Cheese section at my local Schnucks Store and other retailers. I can also find the Kaukauna® Cheese Balls in the Cheese Department as well. Starting today, you can find their most recent offer on Ibotta too!
Try my easy Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Pretzel Bites for your next picnic and you’ll have your guests wanting to know how you did it all! Need more inspiration?
