Miss H has insanely curly hair. I don’t know how it is so curly because my curls are not like that. It has taken a lot of trial and error to figure out her curly locks. When done right they are Shirley Temple stunning. I’m sharing 5 ways how we keep her perfect curls looking adorable on a regular basis.
Regular Hair Cuts – I’m going to be the odd ball out here when it comes to kids and hair cuts, but I believe kids need regular hair cuts just like adults. We take Miss H to a local fun kid friendly place where she comes home with Elsa Braids, Glitter and bows. Regular hair cuts keep curly layers in place, minimize the frizz and makes the curls look so much better. We go about every 3 months for Miss H and we make a big deal about it. I know they say you should wait with curly haired kids, but we cut Miss H’s hair before she turned one, and as you can see she has super curly hair still.
Conditioner Is Your Best Friend – Identifying and using a curl specific product for your child is critical for perfect curls. We have a weekly routine where we wash every other day, deep condition on Tuesday nights – after swimming. We love to use So Cozy Boing Shampoo and Conditioner and for our deep condition days leave in on while Miss H plays in the tub and then rinse out before bed. The So Cozy Boing collection has really helped keep her curls from frizzing, and keeping them in the perfect ringlet shape. I also love that So Cozy is made with non-toxic ingredients that are safe and effective on Miss H’s hair. As a mom, I’m always looking out for the safest products to use.
Wet Brush is Your BFF – Forget the wide tooth combs and brushes, a wet brush is where it is at. They cut down in the awful tangle pulls and your kiddo can even brush their own hair with not much effort. We always make sure to brush hair out straight and then scrunch after we brush. Eliminating the tangles ahead of time really helps with the tears.
Air Dry As Much As Possible – Keeping heat of curls is one of the best things you can do for your little one’s hair. In rare situations like really cold nights or I’m feeling wild and crazy and want to blow her hair out straight, we use a hair dryer on a low setting. Otherwise, I let her hair completely air dry. It really sets up the curls well. I just add a little So Cozy Leave- In Conditioner, scrunch her curls and in about 30 minutes she has completely dry hair.
Reactivate Curls – Funny enough we also use the So Cozy Boing Leave- In Spray to reactivate curls. Miss H sleeps hard on one side of her head and wakes up with a side of frizz. To eliminate and bring those curls back to their original bounce, I love using a spray water bottle to dampen her air and then spritz the Boing Leave-In Spray to re-hydrate and wake up the curls. Just a few scrunches of the damp hair and you are back in business.
So there are the secrets that we use to keep those curls rocking all day and night.
Do you have any secrets to keeping your kiddos curls in check?
