Ya’ll – I am plum exhausted. The past 24 hours have been absolutely crazy. I had good intentions Sunday morning of waking up at midnight and checking on the website. I randomly woke up at 11:45 and checked twitter and apparently the mobile back links had been found out – I quickly grabbed my glasses and a glass of water and went to the office. I had also been on twitter following the President of Target.com because he said he’d tweet when it went live. So I turned on his notifications and off I went.
I quickly found a few of my must have items and a few of my non-must haves because I just got excited. I was excited to learn that they had up to an 18 and also the plus size. I’m in that wonky space of being in both ranges. I was able to order both sides. I thought I was all good until the crash happened and Target had figured us out. By then I had all but 3 of my must have and they were sitting in a cart spinning. I was hosed.
So 6 ordered completely processed and I have one that is listed on my account but I never got a confirmation for it – it’s the Nosie Posey dresses for H and I. I won’t be heart broken if it doesn’t ship, but I’m glad I attempted. Then I started to freak out because everyone said they ran small – so I bolted back out to get the swimsuit because I need a good one piece for swim lessons with an underwire!
When all was said and done I got to bed about 3:30. I was hyped up and couldn’t sleep. I laid there thinking if I didn’t get the last order I could go to my local Target in the morning and try to get it. I didn’t think there would be a big buzz about it, so I decided to go. So on 3 hours of sleep, I left the house at 7:45 and arrived to a line of maybe 10-15 ladies. About 5 minutes till a Target Rep came out and shared where all the items were in the store and indicated they did not get a lot of inventory. With that in mind, I knew to start at the back of the store because everyone would be going for the women’s. They didn’t even have what I wanted. Everyone was kind, courteous and not running like crazy idiots. No fighting, no stealing of items – everyone just grabbed what they wanted and moved along.
My cousin and friend were at different locations and had similar horror stories of people just loading a cart with an entire rack and taking off. I get it, supply and demand. I also understand that there was only so much made. It’s a capsule collection. Not everyone is going to get it. There is so much drama circulating around the eBay listers. No one is going to pay $100 for a $30 dress. It’s not going to happen. If I had $100, I’d just buy a regular Lilly. There is a movement to boycott #LillyforEbay and I’m in full support. With a short return window, it may be difficult for them to move their inventory. I’ll be on the look out for returns over the next couple of weeks.
Kudos for Lilly for launching the summer collection on Monday, I’d be curious to see what kind of marketing numbers they have for an increase in their regular sales. LP.com had a mystery gift with any purchase this weekend too, so I opted to add to my Koozie collection. I think it’s just chap stick, but heck – why not, right?
There is lots of blame and pointing fingers but here is what I know
1) Target probably did not estimate the number of ladies coming out for this collection (even my non-Lilly friends went out for this one)
2) They were upfront and shared information via FB and Twitter – I appreciate that
3) People keep taking Target’s words and twisting them to fit their agenda. Why?
While I have to wait for all my goodies (all 6 orders have officially shipped!) I’m just enjoying seeing what everyone else got. People planned, put thought into what they wanted and were successful.
Now I’m going to have a cupcake, crawl up on the couch and watch Mad Men!
