It’s official. We have a Pre-K Kiddo. Don’t worry, it’s just 1 morning a week, but for me, it felt like she was going off to college. We’ve been practicing for weeks, driving the route to school, talking about school, meet the teacher night, parent orientation.
We were ready.
This morning, we were ready. Loaded up the car, Dora fruit snacks, backpack, sticky hands and all and off we went.
Miss H did great. We even had our photo taken when we got to school to welcome us. I remembered the walk down the hallway from meet the teacher night and I started tearing up. But I had read on the paperwork we got at orientation to HOLD IT TOGETHER. Rounding the corner, I was able to hold back the tears and we went into her room. Excited was an understatement because you’d think she’s been going for weeks. She handed her backpack off, sat on the floor and started playing legos.
I told her I was going to leave and proudly she yells “BYE MOM!”
So out the door I went. Finally made it to the car and I couldn’t hold it anymore, water works. I called Jeff because he had already had his water works session before he left for work.
So we officially have Pre-K Kiddo, and I’m alright with that.
I opted to go in to pick her up today and there she was sitting quietly in line with her backpack on waiting for her name to be called. It was amazing. She told me all about her first day and what they learned and that they had goldfish for a snack. We had agreed it was a special day and we met Jeff for lunch so he could hear all about it. As much as you can get from a 2 1/2 year old!
I hope everyone has a fabulous first day back to school. Wouldn’t life be so easy if we just walked in and went with the flow? I’m so proud we’re raising a smart, independent little lady. We’re doing it right.

Aw! I remember Owen's first day of preschool and being so worried. He was the same as Hattie, and didn't mind me leaving him there at all. I felt weird leaving him, like I was walking away with only half of myself, but he was fine. He starts Pre-K next month, which is his last year before Kindergarten, and I'm feeling the panic again, only this time it's because I don't want preschool to be over.
She will love it and you are going to enjoy your time to yourself. Before you know she will be in college so suck up these pre-k moments the best you can.
Go Miss H!! And way to go momma for holding it together so long. She will love preschool. 🙂
Aww! She's too cute! Just think of all the great things she will learn!
That first day is so bizarre for us mamas! I remember feeling so strange leaving the room. Noah wasn't as sure as Hattie, but he was one of the few who didn't cry. Preschool will be an amazing experience for both of you!
